CURRENT GLASS RECYCLING IN SPOKANE Glass food and drink containers emptied of contents, rinsed and free of foreign materials.

The majority of our glass is generated by curbside recycling programs. These programs are operated by the City of Spokane and the county franchised haulers.

4300 tons per year of container glass is collected and recycled in Spokane.

At SRP we sort the glass, clean out contamination and reduce the amber content to less than 10%. Per our customer’s request.

Contamination in glass. Ceramics, porcelain, metal and other non glass materials Classic offenders are restaurants and multi-family dwellings.

Over 80% of the glass is currently shipped to our customer, Vitreous, in Alberta, Canada.

At Vitreous the glass is crushed, cleaned and processed down to a fine sand.

This reclaimed clean sand is shipped to Owens Corning and Johns Manville plants in Alberta where it is turned into fiberglass insulation

Recycled glass sand from the Vitreous plant has replaced 60% of the raw materials previously used at the Owens Corning and Johns Manville plants to produce fiberglass insulation.

Amber glass recovered from sorting and from the local transfer stations is shipped to the Owens Illinois manufacturing plant in Portland where it is turned back into bottles.
