LC Summary of RDA Updates for April 2014 Update of the RDA Toolkit, page 2

A complex case may happen …

Recording Copyright Dates (2014 April release)

Related rules for copyright date: 2.11 revised in 2014 April release

, , 2.7.6, 2.9.6, —Added a new instruction for recording a date in more than one calendar year; added a paragraph to indicate that a date in different calendar is considered an alternative chronological designation (2014 April release)

Do we need a more simplified version of related rules for different calendar years? A CEAL proposal for rule revision? Your votes please!

Publisher’s Name 2014 April release

: Added paragraph to indicate that a publisher’s name may be represented by a characterizing word or phrase (e.g. Publisher to His Majesty)

—Relocated optional omission to omit levels in a corporate hierarchy when recording a publisher’s name (formerly at ) and added reference to recoding the publisher as a relationship in Chapter 21; same for and for distributor’s and manufacturer’s names

Corporate bodies 2014 April & October releases

11.4.5—Added new element sub-type for the period of activity of a corporate body for use when a date of establishment or termination is unknown. Core element when to needed to distinguish a corporate body from another corporate body with the same name. See for instructions on using in an AAP. (2014 April release)

—Revised to include adding period of activity of the corporate body to the AAP. (2014 April release)

—changed from “Names not conveying the idea of corporate body” to “Type of corporate body” to more clearly delineate the three types of “other designations”: type of corporate body, type of jurisdiction, and other designation. Type of corporate body is core when the corporate body name does not convey the idea of a corporate body, or when the designation is needed to distinguish one corporate body from another with the same name.

LC-PCC PS for Revised section for minor name changes for corporate bodies to address the addition, omission, or fluctuation of a frequency word in a conference name; LC-PCC PS for —Replacing information on minor changes with a reference to revised LC- PCC PS for (2014 October release)

Revisions concerning multi-part monographs, serials and integrating resources: 2014 April to 2015 February The place of publication changes, rare serials (title proper transcription), extent, incomplete serials, etc.

Multipart Monographs, Serials & IR (2014 October release)

: Added LC/PCC practice for rare serials (New statement) (2015 Feb. release)

2.8.2: Removed LC/PCC PS for subsequent places of publication for multipart monographs and serials (follow instead). Added PCC-PS for rare serials. (Feb release)

CONSER practice (CCM10.5) = RDA &

LC-PCC PS for 3.4--Added LC/PCC practice for extent of serials and integrating resources, online resources, and PCC practice for rare materials (New statement) (2015 Feb. release)

Added LC/PCC practice for incomplete serials and integrating resources

Alternative: Clarified LC/PCC practice for serials (2015 Feb. release)

Because BSR (with subsequent additions to the BSR for rare materials and non-book formats) and CSR are added to the LC/PCC PS, more PS/core elements are added for rare materials, serials/integrating resources, rare serials, rare music, archival materials, rare notated music, graphic materials, AV, cartographic resources: a few remaining BSR/CSR issues will be resolved in a subsequent release February release

An example : Added PCC core element requirement for graphic materials (New statement) (2015 Feb. release)

Examples: 2.14 Added core element for frequency 26.1: Added core element guidance for serial relationships (2015 Feb. release)

Other categories Details of scripts, compilation, title transcription, relationship designators, etc.

—Corrected caption/section title only; but how rules and are applied for CJK languages and scripts

Other Compilations of Two or More Works (Oct release)

Example

—Revised instructions for recording titles of parts, sections, and supplements, and when they’re sufficient or insufficient to identify the resource.

Updated relationship designators: 2015 February release

Reproductions for 1.11 (LC-PCC PS) 2015 February release

Reproductions (LC-PCC PS for 1.11) Just like PN, this is a different approach from RDA and the outcome of 2013 PCC Reproductions TF report. For microform reproductions of print resources, POD (print on demand) and photocopies only, go to RDA for other types of resources. For microform serials, CONSER CCM editing group is working on revisions, which may be done in summer. There are remaining issues to resolve for certain cases. – ISBN for serials reproduction under discussion within CONSER

Question from the survey: reproductions with both books and serials: CCM Linking to monographs and integrating resources may have the answer for linking

Remaining issues An example

LC/PCC instructions still missing after RDA implementation, e.g for unnumbered supplements; LCRI instructions were not carried over and the LC COIN has not responded to our questions yet …

Issues in the pipeline An Example

Change in Edition Statement Multipart Monographs – Make notes on differences in edition statements from one part of a multipart monograph to another (see ), if considered important for identification. – Example: 余英时, ǂe author Yu, Yingshi, ǂe author Works. ǂk Selections. ǂf 余英时文集 / ǂc 余英时著 ; 沈志佳编 Yu Yingshi wen ji / ǂc Yu Yingshi zhu ; Shen Zhijia bian. 250 第 2 版. 250 Di 2 ban. 500 Volume 11-12: Di 1 ban ǂi Revision of: ǂa 余英时. ǂs Works. Rules under revision by the PCC Standing Committee on Standards Both LC-PCC PS for and are under review by the PCC SCS to update current rules/PSs by using repeated 250 to reflect edition change. – Example: 余英时, ǂe author Yu, Yingshi, ǂe author Works. ǂk Selections. ǂf 余英时文集 / ǂc 余英时著 ; 沈志佳编 Yu Yingshi wen ji / ǂc Yu Yingshi zhu ; Shen Zhijia bian. 250 ǂ3 Volume 1-10: ǂa 第 2 版. 250 ǂ3 Volume 1-10: ǂa Di 2 ban. 250 ǂ3 Volume 11-12: ǂa 第 1 版. 250 ǂ3 Volume 11-12: ǂa Di 1 ban ǂi Revision of: ǂa 余英时. ǂs Works.
