Portable speaker with sound responsive LED’s Developed by Sean O’Connor

Your Brief: To design and manufacture a portable speaker with sound responsive LED’s. This product is to be designed as a accessory for your MP3, ipod, phone, Portable radio etc. 23. Research Design Manufacture

Circuit Theory How a transistor works!

Circuit Theory Turning sound to light using a transistor The LED’s illuminates when the circuit detects a high amplitude waveform. It can be connected to a Walkman, ipod, Phone, mini radio with earphones. This waveform is amplified by a transistor which acts as an electronic switch turning on and off the LED’s to the sound/loudness of the music 3V Task: Now draw the circuit diagram for the circuit to the left. Draw this circuit diagram using the components above. Task: Now label the components used in the circuit above

Circuit Theory Part A: MUSIC TO Light. The LED’s illuminates when the circuit detects a high amplitude waveform. It can be connected to a Walkman, ipod, Phone, mini radio with earphones. This waveform is amplified by a transistor which acts as an electronic switch turning on and off the LED’s to the sound/loudness of the music. Part B: SOUND. The second channel can be connected to produce sound through a small speaker. Beat box circuit diagram BC109 2x1.5V Batteries 3.5mm Audio Jack 0.4w Speaker Rocker switch LED’s 100n Capacitor BC109’s 1M R 1K R 2.2K R Beat box Printed Circuit Board A B How it works! Using the right and left outputs from an earphone jack two circuits can be generated.

Research As a designer research is key to developing a successful outcome, sourcing inspiration in the form of colours, features, form, materials, e.t.c from existing and similar products. Task: Now cut and paste images onto this page and create a mood board
