Teacher’s qualities Pedagogical Approach  Prioritize the person over the physical or technical goals.  Note and record the development of the student.  Develop the self-esteem of each student.  Help the student manage fear.  Respect the limits of the student and your own limits.  Take responsibility for your errors.

Teaching  Give constructive feedback in a timely manner.  Include the notion of pleasure in the training.  Demonstrate an ability to adapt.  Have an open mind.  Have a creative approach.  Be a leader and lead by example.  Assess the potential and know how to move the next level at the right time.

Teaching (continued)  Encourage struggling students.  Use the curiosity and the desire of students.  Make links between learning and experience of the student.  Take into account the emotional state of the student.

Lead and communicate  Develop appropriate tools.  Physically prepare students for the execution of technical movements.  Provide tools for psychological preparation.  Prepare a plan B in case of injury or fatigue.  Plan proper rehabilitation after an injury and a gradual return.  Develop a network of professional services.

Establish clear links between student activities and outcomes.  Aim for a success rate of 70% for each training session.  Know the reasons for each exercise.  Find new ways to learn and adapt to the students.  Integrate and vary as much as possible the different learning opportunities.  Get feedback.

Create a safe environment  Establish clear safety rules.  Identify potential risks for injuries, taking into account the possible errors associated with the Human factor.  Plan all the components needed to develop a student in circus arts.  Be aware of everybody’s learning threshold.  Recognize the body language.  Practice all falls or controlled fails.

Evaluate students fairly and accurately  Develop performance criteria and measurable objectives.  Clearly establish the parameters of the evaluation.  Communicate the results of the evaluation and determine the subsequent objectives.  Choose the appropriate time.  Encourage students to self assess.

Attitude to avoid in Teaching  Intransigence.  Pretention.  Lack of Punctuality.  Negative feedback.  Aggressiveness.  Not up to date on technical or teaching knowledge.
