Life Science Review By: William emery

Draw and label a diagram of the water cycle Draw and label a diagram of the water cycle. Be sure to include its source of energy. Be sure to have the following label: evaporation, condensation, precipitation, runoff, transpiration, and accumulation Condensation Precipitation Transpiration This Photo Was Found With The Words Pre-Removed. Evaporation Runoff Accumulation

What happens during condensation What happens during condensation? Does Earth only experience condensation in the clouds? Why or why not Condensation: water that collects as droplets on a cold surface when humid air is in contact with it, condensation can also happen on the sides of water bottles . Overall, condensation does not only occur in the clouds.

Draw and label a diagram of the carbon dioxide/oxygen cycle Draw and label a diagram of the carbon dioxide/oxygen cycle. Include producers & animals and add what would happen we got more producers on animal in an ecosystem.

Describe the differences in inherited traits vs. learned behaviors Describe the differences in inherited traits vs. learned behaviors. Give 5+ examples of each. A learned behavior is something that is taught. Ex: riding a bike, flying, talking, walking, dressing yourself A inherited trait is something that you get from your parents. Ex: eye color, hair color, height attached or unattached earlobes, short or long second toe

Define the following & give at least 2 examples of each: -producer: they make their own food ex: tree, flower (all plants) -consumer: get food by eating other organisms ex: bear and humans -decomposer: they break down dead plants and animals ex: mushroom, worms -herbivores: only eat plants ex: certain dinosaurs and zebras, giraffes -carnivores: only eat meat ex: lion and tiger -omnivores: eat plants and meat: humans and most bears -scavenger: eats pre dead animals that they find -niche: a animals job: spiders control the small insect pop. Frogs control the fly pop.

How are the teeth different of a herbivore vs. a carnivore How are the teeth different of a herbivore vs. a carnivore? Can they decide one day to change their diet? Why? The teeth of herbivores are different of the teeth of a carnivore because of their diet that they cannot change because they cant eat plants or meat because their teeth were made for a specific diet.

Put the following food chains in the correct order & identify the following organisms as producer, consumer, predator, prey, or scavenger.   #1: Seal, seaweed, polar bear, sun sun, seaweed, seal, polar bear   #2: Hawk, sun, rabbit, grass, vulture sun, grass, rabbit hawk, vulture Grass: producer Seaweed: Producer rabbit: prey Seal: prey, predator hawk: Predator, consumer polar bear: predator, consu. vulture: scavenger

List 4 different possibilities that would happen if one of the organisms in your food chain died. 1. you would go hungry 2. the animal they eat will overpopulate 3. because some animals overpopulated the animals they eat would become underpopulated 4. the whole food chain in the area would be thrown off

Define and list the similarities and differences in complete & incomplete metamorphosis. **Be sure to draw an example of an animal’s metamorphosis for each – and label each stage! Incomplete complete 3 stages 4 stages middle stages: nymph same middle stages: larva, pupa looks like adult as soon as birth starts as egg looks different from adult ends as adult

Describe the function/purpose of each plant part: seed, flower, leaf, stem, root seed: makes plant flower: provides home to nectar and pollen leaf: collects sunlight and makes food stem: moves food throughout the plant through tubes root: collects nutrients and water from soil

Do all plants need the same amount of sunlight, water, and nutrients in the soil? Explain with examples. No because some plants require less water, good soil, nutrients and sunlight like a plant in the desert (no they do not require the same amount of…..)

List the 3 ways seeds mainly travel List the 3 ways seeds mainly travel. Include pros and cons for seeds being able to travel 1.wind: pro: travels faster con: can be stopped by objects in the way 2.water: travels farther con: takes a long time to reach land 3.animals: pro: squirrels bury them con: doesn't travel very far

List 4+ possibilities how a plant population would decrease. 1 List 4+ possibilities how a plant population would decrease. 1. the animal pop. That eats it increases 2. shortage of water 3. shortage of sunlight 4. too much sunlight (plants tend to get fried in the Texas summer heat)

Choose an animal that lives in a desert and describe 3 adaptations (1 adaptation must help it survive in its climate). Snake: 1. ability to live underground 2. eats a Varity of small animals and insects 3. MOSTLY POISIONouS

Describe how a cactus adapts and its niches in its environment Describe how a cactus adapts and its niches in its environment. It has a waxy coating to prevent water loss and its niche is to provide a home for many desert animals

Describe a deciduous forest biome in detail with pictures Describe a deciduous forest biome in detail with pictures. Include plants, animals, amount of sunlight, spacing, etc… The deciduous forest has four distinct seasons, spring, summer, fall, and winter. In the fall the leaves change color. During the winter months the trees lose their leaves. The animals adapt to the climate by hibernating. Also the trees provide shelter for them. Animal use the trees for food and a water sources. Most of the animals are camouflaged to look like the ground. The plants have adapted to the forests by leaning toward the sun. Soaking up the nutrients in the ground is also a way of adaptation.

Describe a tundra biome & the organisms in it Describe a tundra biome & the organisms in it. Include plant and animal adaptations for survival. The tundra biome is a very cold biome the organisms have adapted to live there by obtaining thick white fur or blubber. The plants only live in the short 4 month growing season
