What is binge eating?  Binge eating triggered by compulsive over eating. It also inflicts painful emotional and behavioral symptoms that can affect a person for the rest of their lives. It is as common in men as in women.

Symptoms  When it comes to binge eating, there are 2 types of symptoms: Emotional and behavioral

Behavioral  Keep eating when your still full  Consuming large amounts of food in a small period of time.  Inability to control what an when you eat  Stashing food and eating in secret  Hiding that you eat a lot around others  Sporadic mealtimes

Emotional  When feeling stress victim turns to food  Embarrassment over amount of food being consumed  Feeling as if it weren't you when you start eating.  Endless craving for food.  Feelings continue to worsen including feelings of disgust or shame.  Desperation due to weight and eating habits.

Negative Effects  You gain more weight as you eat more.  You feel worse about yourself  More stress then before  Thoughts of suicide  Substance abuse  Health issues

Ways to help someone with binge eating  Start gentle conversation on the topic  Support the person by making sure they know you care and that you aren't judging them.  Don’t guilt trip them or lecture them because it will only make them feel worse. Doing this will make them binge eat more.  Set a good example by taking care of yourself.

Ways to overcome binge eating.  Learn new ways to handle stress.  Only eat 3 meals a day with healthy snacks.  Exercise  Get a lot of sleep  Keep a food diary  Get support  Listen to your body

Summary  Binge eating is a eating disorder triggered by compulsive overeating. We have found that it can take full control of your life if you aren’t careful. The emotion and physical behavior is very sporadic and can catch you unawares. You can help someone with binge eating in more than 8 ways, including: making sure the person knows you care and are there for them. Two of the many ways to overcome binge eating is to learn how to handle stress and get support from friends and family.
