Location On the West Coast of Africa Bordered by Sierra Leone, Guinea, Ivory Coast, and the Atlantic Ocean Officially the Republic of Liberia

Historic Events In 1847, the colony of freed slaves declared independence and founded the Republic of Liberia Founded as a colony in 1822 by freed slaves from the United States from 1989 to 2005 Liberia was in a state of flux, witnessing two civil wars, the First Liberian Civil War (1989–1996) and the Second Liberian Civil War (1999–2003)

Major Individuals Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf is determined to become Liberia's president and to be the first woman to be elected as head of state in Africa In late 1989, a civil war began the Americo-Liberian named Charles Taylor with the backing of neighboring countries such as Burkina Faso and Cote d'Ivoire entered Nimba County with around 100 men

Major Imports and Exports Agricultural products include goats, pigs, cattle and rice.
