Major Individuals Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf is determined to become Liberia's president and to be the first woman to be elected as head of state in Africa In late 1989, a civil war began the Americo-Liberian named Charles Taylor with the backing of neighboring countries such as Burkina Faso and Cote d'Ivoire entered Nimba County with around 100 men

Major Imports and Exports Agricultural products include goats, pigs, cattle and rice. Fish are raised on inland farms and caught along the coast Exports The Liberian economy depended heavily on iron ore and rubber exports, foreign direct investment, as well as the export of its other natural resources, such as timber.

Culture and Religion Liberia has a long history in textile arts and quilting It is estimated that as much as 40 percent of the population of Liberia practices either Christianity or Christianity combined with elements of traditional indigenous religious beliefs
