Who is Larry Page? Larry Page is a famous US Computer scientist, best known as the cofounder of Google, alongside with Sergey Brin. Also, he is the 6 th richest person in America and is ranked the most important person (with Sergey Brin and Eric Schmidt) on the Web, by PC World Magazine. Larry was born on March 26 th 1973, in Lansing, Michigan, US into a no- practicing Jewish family. In 1998, Larry Page and Sergey Brin Found Google, INC, the now most popular search engine.

What is ? Google is an American Corporation, designed to earn profit from advertising its internet services, such as Internet Search, , online mapping, even video sharing. Google classified information on the web first by finding it, then performing the “PageRank” algorithm. This relied on a new technology which examined relevance of backlinks the connected a Web page to another. This system was far superior to other search engines. There was actually a search engine created before Google, by Page and Brin, technically found in 1996, actually being named “BackRub”, meaning to operate on the servers of Page and Brin’s university, Stanford University. However when the search engine took up too much bandwidth for the university, they created a new one in 1998, naming it “Google” inspired from the number googol, equal to a 1 followed by 100 zeroes, claiming this term reflects their mission to organize a seemingly infinite amount of information on the internet. In 1998, co-founder of Sun, Andy Bechtolsheim, wrote a check for $100,000 to Google, a company that didn’t exist yet.

Larry Page’s Career Larry Page’s interest in computers began when he was only six years of age, being allowed to “play with the stuff lying around.” He became the first kid in elementary school to hand in an assignment from a word processor. He was also taught how to take things apart by his older brother, and before long, he was taking everything apart in his home just to see how it worked. Quoted from Page himself: “From a very early age, I also realised I wanted to invent things. So I became really interested in technology...and business. So probably from when I was 12 I knew I was going to start a company eventually.” Page attended a Montessori school in Lansing, and proudly graduated from East Lansing High School. Page recieved a Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering from the University of Michigan, and a Masters degree in Computer Science from Stanford University. Whilst at the University of Michigan, Page’s computing skills stood out, him creating an inkjet printer from Lego, serving as the president of the “HKN”, and becoming a member of the solar car team. Page considered pursuing the interesting mathematical properties of the internet, or the World Wide Web, in which he understood its link structure similar to a huge graph. In 1995, during a spiring orientation for new computer science Ph.D students, Page met with Brin for the first time. Brin was assigned to show some students around the campus, having a two year experience. Later they created a good friendship. In 1998, Page and Brin found Google, Page and Brin running Google with Page as co-president, until they hired Eric Schmidt as CEO and Chairman of Google, three years later, in In 2003, both Page and Brin obtained an honorary MBA from IE Business School for “embodying the entrepreneurial spirit and lending momentum to the creation of new businesses.” Also, in 2004, they were awarded the Marconi Foundation Prize, the “Highest Award in Engineering”. In 2004, Larry Page was named “Person of the Week”, along with Sergey Brin, by ABC World News Tonight. Larry Page married to a woman named Lucinda Southworth on December 8 th 2007, at Richard Branson’s Caribbean island, Necker Island. On 2007, Page, Brin and Schmidt were ranked #1 on the list of 50 most important people on the web in PC World. On 2009, May 2 nd, Larry Page received an honorary doctorate from his former University, University of Michigan, during commencement ceremony exercises. As of today, Larry Page continues to work under Google, hoping to unveil new technology to assist internet usage.

Other facts about Larry Outside Google, Larry Page is an investor in alternative energy companies like Tesla Motors, the developers of the Tesla Roadster, a 350km range battery powered electric vehicle. He also is committed to energy technology which is renewable and promotes the introduction on hybrid electric cars and other alternatives for energy with the help of Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google.

Video Here is a video of Larry Page and Sergey Brin unveiling the G1, an android powered phone, which became available October The video will start automatically.

Conclusion To conclude, Larry Page’s work, alongside with his associates, has contributed a great deal of convenience for the modern world. If it were not for projects such as Google, Gmail, Youtube or Google Earth, the world of the internet would be far less advanced. For all this, Larry Page deserves much appreciation and recognition.
