Curriculum Reports

Curriculum Inventory

Reporting Enhancements Pre-defined common reports Search objectives for content as well as keywords Link to NLM, SNOMED for synonyms for search terms Summarized, graphical data Standardized terminology (Instructional Methods, Assessment Methods, Resources)

Curriculum Inventory: Reports Coverage of “x” taught in US and Canadian medical schools (# of medical schools/median number of courses, sessions, topics, objectives, and competencies per academic year) Trend for coverage of “x” for the past few academic years or grad years (# of medical schools/median number of sessions per academic year) Viewing objectives for courses (or sessions) where “x” is taught Average length of courses where “x” is taught (the Curriculum Directory will provide clerkship lengths) Max, min, and med number of hours per educational method [per year of curriculum] Coverage of “x” Competencies (# of medical schools/median number of sessions where linked) Assessment Methods used for "x" content or competency Educational Methods used for "x" content or competency

Curriculum Inventory Partnering with MedBiquitous ( )  Curriculum Inventory Working Group – Kick-off December 2010)  Group composed of members from medical schools, curriculum management system vendors, other health professions, graduate medical education  Meeting twice a month through September  Release CI Standard in September

Curriculum Inventory: Use Cases ID CIWG-9 TitleSearch for items in a curriculum based on a specific characteristic Actors Curriculum database Curriculum researcher Trigger event A Curriculum researcher has a question about a curriculum. For example, "Where is nutrition taught in our curriculum?" Sucess end condition The researcher sees a display of items matching the defined characteristics. Assumptions The use case assumes that the Curriculum researcher's curriculum data is in a system that allows queries, and that the researcher has the appropriate permissions to perform the query. Description The researcher identifies a curriculum to search and specific search parameters. The curriculum database displays items from the curriculum that match the researcher's search parameters. Transaction- Exceptions If there are no courses or other curriculum components that match the researcher's query, the Curriculum database indicates that nothing matches the search. Potential StandardsCurriculum inventory

Curriculum Inventory: Key Concepts Program: The curriculum describes a program of study. An institution may have more than one program. Profession: Curricula are designed for a particular profession, for example, physician. Specialty: Curricula in residency and continuing education are usually designed for a particular specialty. Course: Every curriculum has a set of courses that together with other events comprise the curriculum. Session: An event within a course where learning or assessment takes place. Time: Courses and related events are scheduled over a period of time. Duration: Courses and related events last a certain number of hours. Organization: Each curriculum has a structure used for purposes of organizing the courses and other events that comprise the curriculum. Often the structure is tied to time (i.e., years of study), but not always.
