DUAL CREDIT Mobridge-Pollock High School

What is Dual Credit?  Dual credit is an opportunity for high school students to enroll in post-secondary institutions in South Dakota while earning credits for both their high school diploma and post-secondary degree at the same time.

Benefits of Dual Credit?  Dual Credit-students earn credits for both high school diploma and a post-secondary degree.  A jump start to students’ post-secondary careers.  A significant cost savings for students and parents through reduced tuition costs.  Increased confidence for college success.

Courses Available through SDBOR at:  Black Hills State University  Dakota State University  Northern State University  South Dakota School of Mines and Technology’  South Dakota State University  University of South Dakota (courses should transfer between the six SDBOR institutions)

Courses at SD Technical Institutes  Lake Area Technical Institute  Mitchell Technical Institute  Southeast Technical Institute  Western Dakota Technical Institute  (courses may or may not transfer to other post-secondary institutions in SD)

Costs  $40 per credit (i.e. 3 credit course = $120)  Students are responsible for the cost of the coursework and any related textbooks or course materials.

Program Eligibility  Juniors and Seniors  Students must meet institutional (post-secondary) enrollment requirements.  MPHS must approve student enrollment.

Board of Regents Institutions Requirements:  A high school junior or senior attending a public high school within SD.  meets undergraduate admissions requirements (ACT or course work); or  If a high school senior, rank in upper one-half of their class or score at or above 50 th percentile on a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test, such as the ACT or SAT; or  If a high school junior, rank in the upper one-third of their class or score at or above 70 th percentile on a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test, such as the ACT or SAT.

SD Technical Institutions Requirements  Available for juniors and seniors  Enrollment requirements vary by program which is noted in course descriptions.  There may also be age requirements in some cases (noted in course descriptions).

MPHS Responsibilities:  Coursework will be recorded on the student’s transcript and will be used to calculate grade point average.  To register a student through identified single point of contact at each post-secondary institution  To monitor student progress through a local district mentor.

Dual Credit Transfer:  BOR Baccalaureate General Education Curriculum will transfer between BOR institutions.  Technical Institutions have a limited number of courses that will transfer to BOR institutions.  Students are encouraged to consult with the post-secondary institution of choice regarding transferability of credits earned.  If attending an out-of-state university or technical school, please contact that institution directly to see if it the course is transferable.

Dropping a Dual Credit Course  Each post-secondary institution’s drop/add policies apply in regards to refunds and grades.  Failing a course is calculated into the student’s grade point average at the local and post-secondary level.  If this is a graduate requirement, student must make up the course if the student failed it.
