An Introduction to Stop Motion Animation

What is Stop Motion Animation? A technique used to make an object moved by a person appear to move on its own The object is moved a small amount and a picture is taken This makes objects appear to move when the pictures are played quickly one right after the other – think of a flip book!

What are good objects to use in stop motion? Dolls or toys that have moveable arms and legs Building toys such as Legos or magnetic tiles Drawing can also be incorporated into a stop motion video – can you guess how?

Here’s an Example! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDzm5hDemTQ What made this video really great?

Requirements All grades are required to have a title page, credits, and some sort of sound or music in their film Time requirements 1st and 2nd grade must have at least a 30 second video 3rd and 4th grade must have at least a 1 minute video 5th and 6th grade must have at least a 2 minute video Have a creative, unique story

For today… Begin contemplating ideas for your stop motion film – remember to keep the idea fairly short and simple. You won’t be able to film more than about 3 minutes worth of film. Bring in objects tomorrow or as soon as possible Begin working on your “Rough Idea” worksheet
