Brenda McMahon By: David Beyl

o She was schooled at Manhattan’s Hunter College and received a Master of Arts from SUNY Albany in What inspired her was where she grew up in New York. She loved the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean and the Rockaway beach. o Instead of using glazes, she started to experiment with natural materials, polished porcelain and the random markings of fire. She never maid two pot alike in her experiences of pottery. o She began to do ceramics after working in broadcast for 10 years. She studied in the Art Center of the Capital Region in Troy, New York she taught and learned from many experienced potters. Her teacher and her dear friend John Vissor.

o This vase is 13 inches maid out of porcelain vessel that was fired using the saggar technique. o It has two layers first, the satin surface that is from an ancient process called burnishing. The vase is burnished in its leather hard stage with a river stone. The saggar firing of this vase provides the second layer. The ceramic is covered with a variety of organic material, like sawdust, grasses, hay, etc. Then it is put in the kiln to fire it for 24 hours.

 The clay pot was carved into a vase which was hand made.  It was made using a wheel.  It is a really interesting design that Brenda made. It has a interesting color. It was at the point of leather hard and she carved it out to make that original design.

 All of the work that is made in Blue Moon Clay Studio is handmade pottery. The only tool used is the wheel.  Most of the handmade pottery made at Blue Moon Clay Studio is very decorative. The soft hues of the saggar fire are natural blushes of color on the surface. This American handmade pottery is porous and not designed to hold water.

 This ceramic pot was also made at Blue Moon Studio. It was hand formed and made with a wheel and a kiln.  These pot have a really interesting design and the colors makes the pot look really good, adventurous and unique.

 Brenda maid some really interesting tile work that is really beautiful. There are some designs that have a never seen design and there are also others that you might be able to predict what it is. She also did this weird design with many tiles that is like a puzzle and forms a whole new design.

 View Saggar fired ceramic tiles were piled up on a wooden frame. Unique one of a kind art pieces. Wide variety of ceramic tiles to choose from.

 Located along the Hudson River, just east of Saratoga Springs. This was were Brenda made her own master pieces and she had a talent for the making of pottery.

I will make two pots made with a wheel. What really inspired me what the interesting designs she made.
