WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC By: Brian Martin

Introduction  Towards the end of this video, it shows where the championship game was played in San Francisco, California; but in the other clips throughout the video, venues include Japan, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Panama, and Germany.  This video will give a brief introduction on the venues in these different countries and how culture plays a huge part in baseball.  Enjoy!Enjoy!

Brief History  Founded in  16 teams participate from 16 different countries.  Host countries for the 2013 World Baseball Classic include Japan, Taiwan, Germany, Puerto Rico, Panama, and the United States.  Host countries for past World Baseball Classic’s include Italy, Cuba, China, Mexico, and Canada.

Global Outline of 2013 Venues

Provided by Organization  A few things provided by the World Baseball Classic include equipment, uniforms, and sponsors for the players as well as well as apparel and attire for specific countries for the fans attending the games in host countries.  The countries venues provide concessions, security, certain apparel, and benefits regarding housing and certain ways of transportation.

Targeted Audience  The World Baseball Classic is targeted to attract fans of all ages and genders.  It will attract tourists interested in the country, specific artifacts, monuments, famous buildings, and of course, baseball.

Budget  Along the lines of prize money for the teams that participated, money was split in different ways. For the champions of the classic, the team itself won around $2,700,000 while the runner-ups won $1,700,000. Each player on the championship winning team collected a specific share of the profit. All together, the net profit of the World Baseball Classic was around $18 million dollars, while the total revenue was around $68 million dollars.  Countries that hosted venues and pool-play games profited around $63 million dollars in broadcasting production, while ESPN profited around $5 million dollars for broadcasting the game for people in the United States and other countries.

Budget Cont.  Now, certain countries attracted spectators to their venues by promoting the events through television broadcasts, various different marketing advertisements, as well as help from other host countries to encourage them to follow their favorite teams and players around the world.  The host countries and local economy benefited from things like concessions, ticket sales, participation in different sales throughout the contests, as well as fan participation in the sport within their own country.  These economical impacts helped these host countries be able to support their fans, players, the community, and also help promote the game of baseball

Why attend the WBC?  The World Baseball Classic did a spectacular job of promoting these venues in the different host countries to help their economy bring in money as well as tourists to visit these beautiful countries. A few other things the spectator can participate in are not only the World Baseball Classic, but the cultural life in the host countries as well as local traditions presented by the people of the country.

Issues?  Various revenue and sharing of the profit between countries, sponsors, and different agencies; as well as broadcasting rights, hosting venues in home countries, and berth into this international baseball classic.
