Presidential Bracketology

Elite Eight

George Washington vs. Dwight D. Eisenhower Though Eisenhower was a great military leader and president, our nation’s founding father wins this round because of his outstanding economic and foreign relation advancements.

Franklin D. Roosevelt vs. Andrew Jackson King Jackson was overthrown in this round by FDR because of all of the economic support that he gave to banks, organizations, and the American people as he took on the depression with the New Deal, but during Jackson’s presidency the king did everything in his power to take down the bank.

Lyndon B. Johnson vs. Ronald Reagan Reagan takes down LBJ in this round because of the fact that even after suffering an attempted assassination attempt, he took on congress and obtained legislation to stimulate economic growth, curb inflation, increase employment, and strengthen national defense.

Thomas Jefferson vs. John F. Kennedy Kennedy wins this round to move onto the final four because of the many steps he took towards “a world of law and free choice, banishing the world of war and coercion” and his influence in the end of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Final Four

George Washington vs. Franklin D. Roosevelt Though Washington was the first president and a founding father of our nation the winner of this semi-final matchup is FDR. Roosevelt wins this round because of all of the things that he did to drag America out of the Great Depression.

Ronald Reagan vs. John F. Kennedy This was probably the toughest matchup yet. Both men sought for world peace and came pretty close to it. But one of these men accomplished and persevered more than the other. Reagan’s run as president brought the longest recorded period of peacetime prosperity without recession or depression. That is why Ronald Reagan is the winner of this presidential matchup.

Championship Round

Franklin D. Roosevelt vs. Ronald Reagan Reagan: "Reaganomics" controlled inflation and brought huge economic growth to the U.S. He also increased the pressure on the War on Drugs and instilled harsher penalties for drug offenders. He also signed the Immigration Reform and Control Act in Roosevelt: Roosevelt had one of the most productive "First 100 Days" in the history of the U.S. He wanted immediate relief from the Great Depression, and that's exactly what he delivered with his "New Deal" and "Alphabet Soup" reform programs.

Franklin D. Roosevelt vs. Ronald Reagan (cont.) Reagan: Reagan completely fulfilled his campaign pledge to restore "the great, confident roar of American progress and growth and optimism. Reagan also swiftly and gracefully returned to office after an attempt on his life only 69 days into office. Roosevelt: Roosevelt selflessly kept his battle against polio from the publics' eye to insure their confidence in their president. For similar reasons, he was the only President to run for more than three terms, because he felt the U.S. needed some stability in the time of the crisis of World War II.

Franklin D. Roosevelt vs. Ronald Reagan Reagan: Reagan sought to achieve "peace through strength" by building up the U.S. defense, increasing its spending by 35 percent. However, he also sought better relations with the Soviet Union. He also declared war on terrorism and was responsible for maintaining the free flow of oil during the Iraq-Iran war. Roosevelt: Roosevelt did all that he could to maintain neutrality in the second World War, but eventually had no choice but to aid Britain and eventually get involved when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. He also devoted much time and planning into the United Nations.

Franklin D. Roosevelt Unfortunately, F.D.R. died in office before he could oversee the full benefits of his programs.

So the winner is...

Ronald Reagan! Ronald Reagan overall had the most successful and honest presidency of all other past leaders of the United States, and any other leaders to date.
