Stop Lecturing… Start Screencasting! Changing your classroom to meet the needs of 21 st Century Learners

What’s a Screencast? A screencast is combining pictures, demonstrations, drawings, narration and text on a screen (your computer or iPad) to create a video. Contact facebook.com/308tech

Screencasts sit between static graphics and having an expert close at hand. We get a visual, moving demo with a friendly voice, we can also have text annotations on screen and animations. An advantage of screencasts over an expert is that they can be replayed at will every hour of every day. Contact facebook.com/308tech

Think Khan Academy…. Contact facebook.com/308tech

Call it Blended Learning Flipping the Classroom Differentiated Instruction Or just GOOD PRACTICE We need to Redefine our teaching with technology. Contact facebook.com/308tech

We can’t talk about REDEFINING our teaching and technology integration without talking about SAMR. I hope she doesn’t ask us to talk to a neighbor about SAMR…I have no idea what that is… Contact facebook.com/308tech

We want to be here Contact facebook.com/308tech

Getting Started Identify the purpose of your screencast. Identify your audience. Storyboard or pre-write your lesson. This is a must!!! Clear your desktop of anything that could be distracting. Mute your cell phone. (live and learn) Cue up all websites, PPTs etc. to be used in video. Contact facebook.com/308tech

Recording Your Lesson Give your lesson in short chunks. Determine if you need transition slides. Recording an opening slide is a nice touch. Read through your script a few times before you record. Speak slowly and clearly. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes….and leave them in your video! Contact facebook.com/308tech

There’s An App For That! Screencasting With iPads Contact facebook.com/308tech

Educreations Just the Facts: Free App or PC/MAC Records Voice Adds pictures but no video Uploads to Educreations site No editing features Can be embedded into blog Account needed OR teacher code Educreations turns your iPad into a recordable whiteboard. Creating a great video tutorial is as simple as touching, tapping and talking. Explain a math formula... Create an animated lesson. It is easy to use, so it makes a great tool for assessing student knowledge. Putting this app in the hands of your second language learners will give assessment a whole new meaning. Students can create projects that apply to every level of Bloom's Taxonomy verbally and through illustrations. Contact facebook.com/308tech

Explain Everything Just the Facts $2.99 App only Record Embed Video, audio, photos, drawings and text Multiple share Multiple app connections (dropbox, box, google docs) Contact facebook.com/308tech One of the best features of Explain Everything is that it is connected. Users can seamlessly navigate between many integrated cloud apps, including Evernote, Google Drive and Dropbox. It’s also easy to connect to other areas of the iPad to access stored items such as videos, pictures and music. Explain Everything supports a variety of export formats includingMP4/Mov, PDF and more. Upload completed projects to YouTube or publish the files as iBooks.

Explain Everything Tutorial Contact facebook.com/308tech

Explain Everything Uses Image / Poster / Graphic / Diagram Creator: With the built in free hand cutout feature, the ability to import pictures from the iPad camera roll as well as any cloud platform that you have connected to the app, any image can be imported into a blank slide as part of a creation. With the small i tool in the left hand menu, images can be layered, locked in place, duplicated and sent to the background, allowing the creator to layer images to create a polished product. Once complete, there is an option to export the final product as either an image file or PDF via , to the camera roll or to any cloud based platform. Contact facebook.com/308tech everything-x-4-ways.html

Explain Everything Brainstorming Platform: One of the most underutilized features in Explain Everything is the magnifying glass tool in the left hand menu. Use this tool with a two finger pinching gesture to zoom out of your Explain Everything canvas. With a combination zooming, free hand drawing, typing and inserting images, users can easily create huge mind maps within the app. For exporting, users can again choose from image or PDF options. Keep in mind that the farther out one zooms when creating, the harder it will be to view the final product when it is exported. Contact facebook.com/308tech

Explain Everything Uses As an Interactive White Board: With a combination of Explain Everything AirServer, Reflector or Splashtop that is running on a MacBook or PC Laptop, Explain Everything becomes a blank canvas that can be manipulated anywhere in the classroom. Math and science teachers can use the blank screen to solve equations and demonstration problem solving. By using the magnifying glass zooming feature in the app, teachers can begin solving equations on the app & zoom out to create more space and continue the process in another section of the blank canvas. More Screencast Apps: App Name:Icon:Description: Knowmia Free It helps you create short video lessons on any subject and publish them on Knowmia.com so students, other teachers and the public can find them. Knowmia Teach makes it easy to bring in visual aids from multiple sources, organize them in steps (like slides in a presentation) and use your own voice and fingers to bring your lesson to life. ShowMe Free Yet another fabulous option for recording and teaching on a whiteboard. Much like Educreations. Doodlecast Pro $4.99 Doodlecast Pro is the easiest way to create presentations on your iPad. The app records your voice as you draw to create quick presentations. Doodlecast Pro saves videos to the camera roll making it easy to import them into popular video editors or presentation tools such as iMovie, Keynote, or iBooks Author. Doceri Combining screencasting, desktop control, and an interactive whiteboard in one app, you’ll never have to turn your back to the class or audience again. Create a lesson or presentation, insert images, save and edit your project and record a screencast video you can easily save or share. Doceri does it all!

A 3,2,1 countdown will appear; once it counts down, begin your recording If at any time you want to stop or start again, simply click the DONE or RESTART button. Preview your recording. If you like what you heard, continue on to the saving instructions. If you want to redo it, hit restart or DELETE and start again. A dotted frame will appear when you press record.
