Who? The War of 1812 was fought between the British and their Indian allies against the Americans. The War of 1812 was fought between the British and their Indian allies against the Americans. Why? The war was fought for many reasons The war was fought for many reasons 1. Trade restrictions- The British were in war against Napolean Bonaparte and the French. This caused the British to call off trading with the Americans for the time being. 2. Impressment of the American Navy- As you know the British are in war. Because of this they are badly in need of sailors to man their big Royal Navy. The British jump the ships of the Americans and take some of their soldiers (some of these soldiers were at one time British and switched over to the American cause) 3. British support of American Indian tribes against American expansion- the British were supporting the Indians to try and stop the Americans trying to advance further into their territory.

The Battle of Fort McHenry The Battle of Fort McHenry was fought in Baltimore, Maryland. The British, after their success at Washington D.C. came to take another big blow at the Americans. Although the Americans held off the British, their was a devastating amount of damage throughout the area. Our country’s national anthem the star spangled banner was written by Francis Key Scott during the battle.
