 Synthetic marijuana-a similar drug that mimics marijuana but with twice the effect.  Natural herbs that are sprayed with designer drugs gives which are so called “Natural Highs.”

 Synthetic Marijuana  K2  Fake weed  Yucatan Fire  Skunk  Moon rocks

 Similar to marijuana it interacts to the THC receptors.  Reacts with the all of the CB receptors located all over the brain.

 Elevated mood  Relaxation  Altered Perception  Anxiety  Paranoia  Rapid heart rate  Vomiting  Agitation

 Confusion  Increased blood pressure  Reduced blood supply  Seizures

 Severe cases= death  Long term effects are still unknown on the body.  There is no proof that they cause cancer, reproduction problems, or permanent damage.

 Originally created for research purposes only by Dr. John W. Huffman.  First 100 hundred milligrams created by Clemson University students and tested on mice.

 This drug was easily obtainable. Common areas were-  Gas Stations  Head-shops  Internet- easiest

 The marijuana herb in this drug is non- addicting.  The chemical substances this herb is sprayed with can potentially cause addiction.

 Spice was mentioned in the emergency room 28,000 times in 2011 an huge increase from 2010 when it was only mentioned 11,000 times.  Some users had even called poison control due to unknown substances.

 The manufacturers target is high school or typically young adults.  Second most abused drug by teenagers.  Manufacturers get away with selling this drug due to the “Not for Human Consumption” label.

 Synthetic Marijuana is worse than normal marijuana because-  More effective and acting on the brain  More desirable  The overdose is worse than normal cannabis  We can’t metabolize the chemicals received  You have no idea what chemicals are being received  Longer lasting effect
