Directions: Create an image of your city, your school district, or you using the crayons at your table – Be ready to explain. Miracle in the Desert! Los Angeles, just so happened to win the Stanley Cup, so I chose to represent my city with the dedication, hard work and success of our LA Kings!

 Finger Tip Facts : Student Enrollment

 Number of Schools and Centers

 Student Ethnic Breakdown

Follow the money Understand the politics and the history Use the right approach for the right audiences! (Over and over and over) Use relationships, but carefully Perseverance is an art Adapt to local conditions – there is no “perfect” implementation

Build a strong site team Ensure the effort is adequately supported and staffed Provide avenues for regular communication and honest assessments of what’s happening Understand the context and build plans collaboratively within it The first year is always a learning year – be prepared for this Learn the lessons!

Model has been well-received at all levels of the LAUSD institution First year data has shown promising trends Don’t discount the early wins! Don’t rest on them either... Funding will remain a key issue

 Scheduling  Teaming  Program Support  Coaching  School Transformational Facilitator  EWI Meeting  Financial Support

WHAT WE LEARNED WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE  Every piece of the Diplomas Now partnership needs INTEGRATION into the school program.  Consistent Communication  Students and Parents see Diplomas Now as support staff in the School not a separate program  Teachers and Staff view Diplomas Now as support partners in a school.  Communication with school leadership at least weekly

 The Partnership needs to integrate and communicate with the school system. This includes understanding the depth of operational and instructional policy of such a large district. Also includes understanding the intricacies of each diverse school.

 Supporting students  Supporting parents  Supporting teachers

Integration w/ Counseling Sustaining Energy & Training Developing communication
