Wareham Fire District Water Department Glen Charlie Road Water Storage Tank Special District Meeting June 23, 2009

2 Glen Charlie Road Storage Tank Background & Purpose:  Need for tank in White Island Shores area established in 2000 Water System Evaluation Report and 2007 update  White Island Shores area is second highest point in the distribution system  Area represents 15% (1,200 service connections) of District customer base  17 sites initially evaluated for tank location in 2007  Top 3 sites re-evaluated in 2008

3 Glen Charlie Road Storage Tank Benefits to the District:  Storage tank will improve fire-flow and system hydraulics to the White Island Shores area  Storage tank will eliminate pressure fluctuations that have occurred in the area during water main breaks in other parts of District.

4 Tank Design Criteria Design CriteriaValue WIS Max Day Demand (gallons per day)337,600 gpd Highest Customer Elevation (feet)80 ft. (NGVD) Tank Site Ground Elevation (feet)59 ft (NGVD) Design Fire Flow1,000 gpm for 2 hours Total Required Usable Storage220,000 gallons Low Water Level to maintain 35 psi81 ft (NGVD)

5 Site Evaluation  Property ownership  Land area  Visual impacts  Site elevation  Proximity to watermains  Availability of Electric and telephone utilities  Road access  Waterbody crossings  Priority habitat/endangered species impacts  Wetland impacts Site evaluation criteria included technical, societal, economic and environmental issues

Siting Analysis Update  Re-evaluated top 3 sites identified in 2007  Same criteria for site rankings utilized  Two properties – private ownership  One property – District owned  Maple Park site also considered as potential site

7 Glen Charlie Site  Advantages –Owned by District, currently has fire station –On main road – direct access –Adjacent to water/electric/telephone utilities –Limited site clearing required –Proximity to fire station adds to site security

8 Maple Park Site  Advantages –District-owned property –Site will have future well supply –Potential to house chemical feed systems in tank structure

9 Maple Park Site  Disadvantages –Tank structure too small to house chemical feed systems –Widening of existing unimproved roads required for construction equipment access –Rebuilding or temporary bridge structures required for tank construction equipment access –Utility extensions required to tank site –Wetland and Endangered Species impacts –Remote location increases security risks –Estimated additional costs approximately = $160,000
