EDWARD JOHN EYRE! He was born 1815 in Whipslade, England. He died in 1901 in Devon, England, at the age of 86. His dad was a Priest. Came to Australia when he was 17. He was a farmer & drover of cattle or sheep. He had lake Eyre named after him.

THE EXPEDITION! The expedition was to explore South Australia to find new farm land.

EVENTS! Mount Deception & Mount Hopeless Named. Discovered & Named Lake Eyre. Sent party home to continue just with Baxter, Wylie & 2 other aboriginals. After 200kms they had no water and animals they took for food were dying. One night the 2 aboriginals murdered Baxter and stole all the food & guns.

SURVIVAL! After the murder of Baxter, Eyre found some flour & water Eyre & Wylie carried on West with no water It had turned winter, with no warm clothes They ate a diseased horse & were very sick They carried on & got help from a French ship In July 1841 they reached safety

TIME LINE! 1815 Born 1832 Travelled to Australia 1901 Died 1840 Began Expedition 1841 Survived his Expedition 1845 Returned Home to England 1865 Governor of Jamaica

IMPACT! The impact it has on the development of this country is it can get more farmland so the colony can expand. It can also get the colonists prepared for the dangerous things outside of where they were in Australia.

CONCLSION! I have chosen Edward Eyre because he was a great explorer. He survived an interesting exploration and was fun to research and learn about.
