Aims of the Music Program CSEC Music is for any student who wishes to further develop her interest, enjoyment and understanding of Music and wish to improve her abilities and skills through performing and composing individually and in groups. These students will expand their understanding and appreciation of a range of music through listening, analysing, appraising and evaluating. Students will develop ICT skills by using the music technology facilities available to perform and compose (enabling them to record in the Computer room and use Finale, Musescore & Sibelius Compass sequencing software).

Expectations CSEC Music students will be expected to have an enthusiasm for Music and should want to develop their interest, enjoyment, skills and understanding across a range of musical areas. In order to achieve highly, students will be expected to take great responsibility for their learning, in preparation for further education. They will have to be effective independent learners who will work hard, be organised and reliable, reflect on their learning, work effectively in groups and participate and be inquisitive in lessons.

Expectations They will also have to be willing to spend time outside of lessons developing their musical skills. This will include: utilising the Music Room and facilities; practicing their instrument(s) at home and attending their specialist instrumental lessons each week (paid for by the school (yeah right!); participating in one of the Music Clubs to widen their musical ensemble skills and understanding; and performing in occasional evening performances.

Expectations CSEC Music can help to provide many further opportunities and pathways. Through practical music making students will develop broader life skills and attributes that are important for any other future course or employment, such as improved social abilities, confidence and team-work skills.

Do you accept the challenge? Come and speak to me if you want to know more!
