Direction of physiotherapy in Sweden The new name and title.. a stepping stone towards more prevention efforts Physiotherapists have to lead the development of health "First take care of your own health, before you take care of the patient" More focus on quality and patient safety Unmet need of rehabilitation in areas such as stroke and cancer Increased collaboration with other professions, and organizations for patients and their next of kin

Swedish Association of Physiotherapy: Influence and Advocacy To develop from a professional union that has to chase for being listened to - to be a professional union which is constantly in demand and is obvious to the authorities

Biggest opportunities To meet the health care needs in 2050 we have to go from health care to "health risk", with the focus on reducing the risk of new diseases arising. The quality in health care can be increased e.g. by improving the public health, preventing fall accidents and decreasing preventable adverse events in general, and prevention of dementia and hypertension Empathy and high tech Take part in society's health care debate Create networks, cooperate within the profession and between professions Use new technologies, i.e. social media etc

Biggest challenges Physiotherapists in the first instance, would improve quality and reduce costs by at least 1 billion per year sjukgymnasternas-kunskaper New technologies must be utilized Increased patient involvement SIDA 5

3 different alternatives for private practisioners in Sweden 1.Business agreement/contract with the government PT have same businessconditions in whole Sweden 2. Business agreement/contract with county councils PT conditions depending of the agreement with the council, varies a lot 3. Without any tax financiation Patients or insurance companies pays the PT SIDA 8

Futural Challenges 1.Developing outcome and quality indicators, suitable for the statement of work. 2.Best practice, 3. Reimbursement system need to focus on outcome not diagnos 4.Prevention and health promotion needs to be included in reimbursement. SIDA 9
