Mecca

Mecca مكة المكرمة Located in Saudi Arabia The prophet Muhammad proclaimed Islam in Mecca, which had previously been a large trading center. Today, Mecca is the capital of Saudi Arabia.

Muslim Pilgrimage Each year, 13 million Muslims travel to Mecca to perform the Hajj pilgrimage. (Nearly, 8 times the population of the city.) From Medina, the entrance in to Mecca is reserved for Muslims only and non-muslims are not permitted to use it.

Makkah! Bakkah! Muslims partake in prayer five times a day in which all face the Kaaba in Mecca, in order to form unity between members. This prayer is known as the qibla a.Kaaba is known as the “House of God” build by Abraham and his son Ishmael

Famous Landmarks Masjid al- Haram – the largest mosque in the world. The Qishla of Mecca- an Ottoman castle. Zamzam well- a spring well said to contain God’s water and heals those who drink from it.
