Presentation transcript:

Aim of this lesson:- To perform facial galvanic By the end of this lesson you will be able to:- Explain the chemical changes that occur within galvanism State the benefits of desincrustation State the effects of Iontophoresis List the contra indications to the treatment Demonstrate facial galvanic Identify appropriate home and aftercare advice

Electrolysis of sodium chloride A solution containing salt & water is an electrolyte Cathode ( Alkaline) – sodium ion ( NA+) reacts with Hydroxyl ion ( OH-) in water producing alkaline sodium hydroxide and hydrogen ( gas) At the anode ( acid) the Chloride ion reacts with hydrogen ions in water producing hydrochloric acid and oxygen Desincrustation- negative pole (cathode) is selected Iontophoresis- positive pole( anode) is selected

Desincrustation Alkaline sodium Hydroxide will:- Saponifies sebum and softens the skin Relax the pores Destroy the acid mantle Increases cell metabolism Stimulation of sluggish skin Improve the condition of the skin and improve the colour of sallow skin

Iontophoresis Hydrochloric acid restores the acid mantle Release of oxygen revitalises the skin Tightens and firms the skin Improves the skin texture Tissue fluid moves away Refines the pores

Contra indications to facial galvanic Lack of skin sensitivity Cuts and abrasions Metal pins and plates around the head Excessive fillings Hypersensitive skin eg: dermatitis Pustular acne Highly nervous clients Pregnancy

Dangers Burns – minimal as the rollers are continually moving and the intensity is low (max 2 Ma) Shock – if the current is turned up or down suddenly

Home and aftercare advice Book a course of six treatments (1 a wk) No make up should be applied for 8 hours Recommend products for specific skin type Drink 6 – 8 glasses of water Balanced diet Recommend treatments in conjunction with skin type such as indirect for dry skin, direct for oily
