TARA HUTCHENS 8 TH GRADE PRE-ALGEBRA APRIL 9, 2015 CCSS 8.G.3 Symmetry and Transformations

Transformation Movement of an original geometric shape to another according to a predefined rule

Reflection Each point of the figure’s image is the same distance from the line of reflection as the corresponding point of the preimage. Try it Out!

Translation A reflection through a pair of parallel lines. Try it Out!

Rotation Reflecting a figure through each of two intersecting lines in succession. Try it Out!

Symmetry Line- each half of the figure is a reflection of the other half. Rotational- during a rotation of less than 360  around a center point, the image coincides with the original figure. Point- 180  rotational symmetry.

Symmetry- What does it look like? Line Rotational
