Logistics Network Analysis

Meaning Where, when and how the product/service should arrive to its final destination. The logistics networks may be understood as the material flows (transport) between specific points (DCs, ADCs, etc.), ranging from the supply of the raw material to the delivery of the final products to consumers in an optimized fashion.

Milk Runs Delivery method for mixed loads Originated from distribution of milk bottles by the milk man The milk man distributes full bottles and collects empty bottles daily After completion of the round trip, milkman returns to the starting point (dairy plant) with empty bottles Similarly, such round trips involve either collecting goods from several suppliers to transport to one customer OR collecting goods from one supplier to transport it to several customers Delivery method for mixed loads

LASH Lighter Aboard Ships For moving cargo from ship to shore and the other way around, a barge or other shallow water craft is carried onboard a ship. Refers to the practice of loading barges (lighters) aboard a larger vessel for transport. It was developed in response to a need to transport lighters, a type of unpowered barge, between inland waterways separated by open seas. Lighters are typically towed or pushed around harbors, canals or rivers and cannot be relocated under their own power.
