What is Geology?

Geology The scientific study of the Earth. Geology focuses on using the scientific method to explain natural aspects of the earth.

Examples of Geologic Study How and why the earth’s surface and interior are constantly changing? What are the interactions between the atmosphere, water, and rocks that compose the earth? How does the constant change of the above items relate to our modern theories, such as Plate Tectonics, and Geologic time?

The Big Picture There are many “Big Picture” ideas that are the foundation for all the rest of the study of geology in more detail. This class will use the concepts learned in chemistry and physics to help explain the Earth we see around you, now and attempt to discover what happened in the past.
