SHIPS AND SEAFEARERS Greek, Viking and Roman ships

A Greek war ship was called a galley. A bireme had 2 rows of oars men but a trireme has 3 rows of oars men. In a war Greek soldiers stood on the deck and fought. Galleys had a ram at the front of the ship to crash into other ships and destroy there hull at war

THE ROMAN SHIP

A roman ship had 2 types of ships. The quadriremes which had for banks of oars and quinqueremes had 5 banks of oars. Like the Greeks they used rams to destroy other ships and to smash there hull.

THE VIKING SHIP

WHAT ABOUT THE VIKING SHIP The key strategy for the Vikings was to attack without sense and almost always lost. Vikings were brutal and almost always losing. A Viking ship had a figure head to scare opposing ships away. A Viking's main weapons were a battleaxe and a long sword. Wealthier warriors wore a helmet and a shirt of linked ironings.
