Teddy’s Experience

  Teddy Roosevelt, unlike most presidents was not elected to be president.  About six months after Teddy became Vice President, President William McKinley was assassinated in September of 1901  Teddy served as President from  While Teddy was campaigning in Milwaukee, he was shot by a frantic, but he soon recovered  He quoted before he left office, “No man has had a happier life than I have had led; a happier life in every way.”  He ran for presidency again in 1912, but lost to Woodrow Wilson  He was the first person to win the Noble Peace Prize which he earned for settling the Russo-Japanese war  As President he ensured the construction of the Panama Canal  He also was known as a “Trust Buster” because he limited the power of big businesses.  He created the quote, “speak softly and carry a big stick”, diplomacy, which added onto the Monroe Doctrine Teddy’s Presidency

  Teddy Roosevelt ended his Presidency in 1909  After his presidency he decided to settle down and write some books.  He wrote “ The Naval War of 1812”  He also wrote a biography of Senator Thomas Hart Benton  And the last book he decided to write was a four-volume series called “ The Winning of the West”  Soon after he wrote his books, Theodore Roosevelt died on January 6 th, 1919 Teddy’s Life After Presidency

 Theodore Roosevelt had many strengths and few weaknesses, so he was considered a great president. He had amazing military skills and pretty good political skills. The only thing that brought him down was his personal life especially on February 14 th when his mother and his wife died on the same day. Although life was throwing many obstacles at him he always dodged them and came out stronger every time. Teddy had tried to be Vice President before, but McKinley said he hadn't proved himself enough. So McKinley felt bad and decided to give him a job, and if he was able to finish he would promote him to Vice President. McKinley sent him to be the Lieutenant Colonel of the Rough Riders. Teddy did what McKinley asked and during the next election Theodore Roosevelt became Vice President. Soon after he became VP he had to take on an even bigger role, which was becoming president. Although he became president unexpectedly, he fulfilled that job to his very best which is all America asked for. Teddy’s Strengths and Weaknesses

 Pictures This picture is a picture of Theodore Roosevelt with his famous quote next t o him. Here is a picture of Theodore Roosevelt leading the Rough Riders to victory. This is Alice Lee Roosevelt, Teddy’s first wife. To the right is Edith Carow Teddy’s 2 nd wife. This is the Panama Canal which wouldn’t exist if Teddy Roosevelt didn’t ensure the construction of it.
