Writing an Informal Persuasive Essay Remember, this is not quite an argumentative paper.

Informal Essay Writing The familiar or personal essay Author’s viewpoint – Usually first person (I, we, our) – Directly addresses the reader Sources of evidence – Comes from the writer’s everyday life

Informal Essay Continued Tone – More personal and subjective – Conversational and casual – Ironic, amusing, thoughtful, angry, or serious Loosely structured Thesis is not always explicitly stated Purpose is to provide reflection

Persuasive Writing Main Goal – To get the reader to agree with you or your point of view on a particular topic Technique – Blends facts and emotion to convince the reader that the writer is “right.” – Relies on opinions

Persuasive Essay Continued Identify a topic and your position. Writer only presents his/her view – The writer may include ONE opposing point, but it’s quickly dismissed or refuted.
