Goals of Our Application Create a very cool and interesting game We want to make everything real. Bring up some new control and 3D UI ideas to video games Implement what we learned from the classes, like selection, manipulation, travel, and wayfinding Create a good 3D User Interface

Instroduction This is a video game, like FPS We’ll use ALVAR markers. With a toolbar on hand, the users can turn around, grab a weapon, shoot the enemies, even reload the weapon. It’s real. With a rotating box on the other hand, the users can move around. Find a way to finish the mission.

Allocation Jake will do the tracking Christian will do the modeling and AI Heming will do the game physics

Interaction techniques For tracking, we will use ALVAR markers For manipulation, we will use a tracked hand technique For travel, we will use a marker box, tilt forward back to control speed, rotation of the plane from the box to no pitch or yaw control For wayfinding, we will make a map at the corner

User Interaction Users will use a toolbar and a rotating box to control We will show some instructions to users at the beginning Every control action is simple and follow the rules in real world Next we’ll show you some real pictures of our application. (Thank you, Christian)

Questions That We Are Trying to Resolve How to better use rotating box to control the movement An easy way to build so many models that we need Try to make everything in the game follow the rules in the real world How to handle the dead angle of markers

Persona And Scenario One persona is a novice user Billy Noobie is a 10 year old student The other is an expert Johnnie Pwnage is 31 years old and has been gaming since he was 12

Billy Noobie is a 10 year old student. He likes to play MarioKart and other casual games on his Wii, and has been gaming since he got a Nintendo DS 2 years ago. He attends grade school and lives at home with his family. Billy gets home from school and decides he would like to play a game. He decides he would like to direct his wrath towards vague flying enemies, and opens FlightSim. He is immediately placed into the cockpit, and views the world of swarming enemies though the plane’s window. He is not an expert, so he chooses the gun weapon – it is not as destructive as a missile, but has a greater chance of hitting the enemy at least once. He maneuvers the plane to track down an enemy by using the map. After firing several rounds, he is forced to reload using the reload button. He then finds his way back to another enemy near the starting point using the map, and destroys it as well. Satisfied, he exits the game.

Johnnie Pwnage is 31 years old and has been gaming since he was 12. He is an enthusiast who plays video games 8 hours a day and competes in local competitions. Johnnie works at Best Buy and lives in his parents’ basement. Johnnie’s rival, top ranked gamer Ace Shewter, has challenged Johnnie to a heads up challenge in the game of his choice. The winner will receive two cases of fruit snacks supplied by Ace’s sponsor, Gushers. The event is widely publicized. Johnnie does not want to face Ace directly, so he chooses the game FlightSim, at which he is an expert. They will not play each other directly- the winner will be determined by enemies killed after 10 minutes. Johnnie opens the game and immediately selects the afterburner, which speeds up the plane but makes game play more difficult. He chooses a missile as his weapon, which requires great accuracy but can kill an enemy in one shot. With these tools he is able to eliminate thirty enemies in ten minutes, versus Ace’s twelve, and wins the fruit snacks.
