What do we mean by ASEAN? A geo-political and economic organisation of ten countries Aim to accelerate economic growth, social progress, cultural development, peace & stability and opportunities for member countries Covers a land area of 4.46 million km² (3% of land) Population of approx. 600 million (9% of the world pop) As a single entity = 8 th largest economy in the world In 2011, combined GDP >US$ 2 trillion Formed in 1967 Economic integration in 2015 … … through the medium of English
