Primary barriers for foreign-born  English language problems  Cultural differences  Differences in teaching methods  Personal issues – multiple barriers such as time conflicts, racism & prejudice, etc. 2

Program objectives Participants in the program will:  Learn effective study methods  Learn strategies to improve performance on multiple-choice tests  Learn how to engage in the active learning methods used in nursing  Learn strategies to reduce test anxiety  Learn strategies to improve clinical judgment in patient care  Learn how European-American culture shapes the nursing profession in the U.S.  Build supportive relationships with other foreign-born nursing students 3

Program content Today:  Unit 1 - Definitions of health and the role of nurses in multiple cultures including the U.S.  Unit 2 - Celebration of diversity – the strengths students bring to nursing  Unit 3 - Time management skills 4
