Presentation transcript:

The Amazon rain forest is full of diverse plant life. This rain forest has many plants and trees. Around a third of the world’s species of plants make their home in the Amazon rain forest. The soil is not rich in nutrients but plants have been able to survive in these harsh places. Fun Fact: The Amazon rain forest stretches over 2 miles of the Earth’s surface. It runs through 8 South American countries.

Bromeliad The first plant is the Bromeliad. The common bromeliad is the pineapple. There are different kinds of colors like purple, blue, orange, and red in the bromeliad plant species. They are growing all over the rain forest. Their leaves store rain water. They are bromeliads because they live on other plants but, they do not parasitize the plant. They only survive on moisture which is their stored water. They obtain their nutrients from the air.

Heliconia Heliconia is the second plant in the rain forest. They have lots of different names such as wild plantain. These flowers come in many different sizes and colors. They have a shape that makes it hard for birds to drink the nectar from. They come in rainbow colors.(The rainbow colors are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.) This is the heliconia.

1.Two thirds of the worlds plant species live in the Amazon rain forest. 2.Bamboo plants can grow 9 inches in a day.

Insects Insects live in the Amazon rain forest. Some insects that live in the Amazon is the butterfly. Other insects are moths, ants, termites, wasps, and bees. Others are paper wasps, leaf beetles, stag beetles, long horned grasshoppers, and the leaf cutter ant. This is the Long Horned Grasshoppers. This is the Pterodictya Reticularis Lantern Fly. This is a termite diagram. Is it a insect or is it a arachnid?

Birds Birds live in the Amazon rain forest. Birds that live in the Amazon are macaws, hoatzins, parrots, and toucans. Other forest include horn bills, raptors like hawks. Birds also migrate to the Amazon rain forest when winter comes. Parrots also live in the Amazon. One of them is the oranged-winged parrot. This is the Amazon bird, the Hoatzin. This is the Macaw. This is the oranged- winged parrot.

One animal that people mostly know that live in the Amazon is the Red Eyed Tree Frog. Others include anacondas, jaguars, spider monkeys, and poison dart frogs. First, anacondas are huge snakes that can swallow things whole. These snakes don’t have any venom but, they can constrict you ‘till you can’t breathe. Second, jaguars are the biggest cats in South America. They are very beautiful and powerful. Jaguars don’t avoid water. Others are mostly bright frogs and snakes. Not much of any cats or insects. Small monkeys, large monkeys, bats, tortoises also live in the Amazon rain forest. OTHER ANIMALS This is the jaguar. Does it scare you? This is the black caiman. Black caimans are big enough to take on land animals in the Amazon. So many creatures. Can you name them all? Answer: left top, toucan; right top, red eyed tree frog; left down, pilpintuwasi butterfly; right down, jaguar.

Rain forests are dense, warm, wet forests. There is an river called the Amazon river. Rain forests cover less than 2% of the Earth’s surface. They have 50% of the animals and plants. Rain forests can be found all over the world. There are two major types of the rain forest are: temperate rainforests and tropical rainforests. Temperate rain forests used to be on every continent.
