Home Education Through Secondary and Preparing For Tertiary Education and the Workforce Prepared and presented by Barbara Smith

Home Educators get less confident when it is getting: More interesting Easier And Young people take on more responsibility Young people begin cutting their own path

Young people need your Guidance Wisdom Experience Support More than ever

Pulling Older Children out of School It is very important to de-school when you begin home educating older children. 1.The child 2.Yourself Re-establish your relationship Do a project on home education…

One month off for every year Don’t be afraid to take 1 month off for every year your child has been in school. So if you are pulling out a14 year old to home educate take 9 or 10 months before you get into the academics. Remember it only takes 2 – 4 years to teach them the skills/tools they need. So relax and have a fun time together – read heaps together, do projects together, play board games together, do stuff outside together, show hospitality etc. And don’t forget to do the project on home education together during this time.

What are people’s main fears/concerns? Qualifications– NCEA, Cambridge etc Getting into University Getting into PolyTech Getting into an apprenticeship Getting a job

Why are Qualifications Wanted? First we need to think why we need the qualifications and what qualifications? So questions to ask are… 1.What does your child want to do? 2.What does he/she have to do to get there?

Cambridge Exams The only way for home educators to do Cambridge is through this group: ambridge/ Do not approach any schools about Cambridge

Thinking of the Future First I want to challenge you to think outside the box Our Sons Our daughters

So how do we get there? Thinking of what we have been talking about earlier today our children have: 1.Gained a wide knowledge 2.Learned the skills/tools 3.Now they are ready to put all this knowledge to use and they have the skills and tools to do this.

To recap Preparation Academic Works Service Start when young – hard otherwise (May need to apologise)
