Miss Bowen’s Weekly Bulletin September 15 th Updates Thank you for covering the students’ texts in contact paper as they came home last week. If you could continue to cover any paperback books that come home this week, it would be very much appreciated. Also, thank you very much for bearing with me as I continue to figure out the class wiki page. It has been updated over the weekend, and will be consistently updated with homework assignments for the remainder of the year. Thank you for your patience as I continue to add the classroom links. Academics Contd. Social Studies-We explored Pennsylvania on the map, discussing the five aspects of geography as they pertained to our state. Science- Our experiment with straws showed us the importance of having standard units of measurement. We spent some time in the lab looking that the tools that will give us those measurements based on the objects that we are working with. Academics Religion- We discussed God as father and explored how the theological virtues and the Our Father help to build our relationships with God. ELA- We learned new vocabulary that will help us to understand the upcoming text on MLK. We also read a text about Mandela, and wrote about times when we similarly experienced injustices and acted as peacemakers. Math- We are leaning about place value and number forms, which seems to be a review for most students. We are also decreasing our time and increasing our accuracy solving multiplication problems. Below is a list of forms that you should have submitted. Emergency Information Card General Technology Use Form My Student Progress Information Instructional Materials Loan Form Parent/ Student Handbook Agreement ** Many of you have responded that you sent these forms in with younger siblings. I made a list of those notes and sent it to the office to be reviewed. Thank you! Star Student Samantha is our star student for the week. She is always the first student ready for each lesson, reading silently with all materials on her desk while others transition. Samantha is focused and eager to participate in classroom discussions.

Miss Bowen’s Weekly Bulletin September 22 nd Reminders Please help us to keep our classroom texts looking great. If you could cover your child’s paperback workbooks in clear contact paper as they come home, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, just a reminder that each child is responsible for two book socks which will be used to protect our hardcover books. Reminders As we talked about at Back to School Night, students’ planners must be signed every night. Please allow some time to review the planner and any notes in it as well as the completed homework assignments before initialing. Thank you! Academics Religion- We discussed God as creator and looked to St. Teresa’s example for how to persevere with prayer. ELA- We worked with our first genre, formal letter writing, when communicating with our pen pals in Ukraine and reaching out to our families on National Grandparents Day. Math- We reviewed multiplication, division, and fractions to evaluate where we need to pick up. Social Studies-We gathered all of our background knowledge about our state and wrote poems about some of the things we see, hear, taste, and smell in our state. Science- We previewed our textbooks so that we know how to most effectively utilize this classroom resource. Below is a list of forms that you should have submitted. While many have already submitted all of their information, there are still a few students for whom I still need completed forms. Emergency Information Card General Technology Use Form My Student Progress Information Instructional Materials Loan Form Parent/ Student Handbook Agreement Star Student Nolan is our star student for the week. He consistently demonstrated a positive attitude and willingness to help. He was also very focused throughout the week and was a model for transitioning between activities. Keep up the great work!
