Prior to Intake………… 1.Discuss rooms, treatment issues, provisions with consultant 2.Contact schools and arrange for school intake 3.Set up ways to make youth feel comfortable in the home 4.Do any necessary preventive teaching with other youth

Intakes:  Intakes are set up by the intake coordinator or consultant  They are typically done at the office  The intake packet is read and signed by youth, caseworker, and parent  Information for the youths file is obtained

Review an Intake Packet with Treatment Parents/ Family Teachers in training

Ideas for Intake This is a great time to connect with the family and caseworker, get contact information and set up first meeting. Youth is usually not happy, be encouraging and reassuring. Include youth as much as possible. Do not talk about youth like they are not there.

Youths First Day in the Home  Attend Intake Meeting  Invite Caseworkers, parents to accompany child to home  Help Child unpack Clothing Inventory  Assign peer “buddy”  Give Copy of Home Manual  Introduce Child at Family Meeting  Serve youths favorite food or snack  Conduct private session to teach about point card, privileges, house rules etc.  Practice Basic Skills  Reinforce youths strengths, teach to weaknesses

Teaching to New Youth Effective Praise Praise, praise, praise Preventive 4 basics, greeting, etc Corrective Between 4:1 to 10:1 ratio
