Job Shadowing Presented by Mrs. Fisher BHS Job Shadowing Coordinator

What is Job Shadowing? An opportunity for a student to observe someone working in a field directly related to his/her career objective A 4-8 hour experience

Why Should I Participate Gain a real appreciation for the tasks required on the job Make important business contacts Learn about specific educational requirements needed to enter the field Gain interview and application experience

How Do You Qualify? Write a Cover Letter Complete the Job Shadowing Application Form Complete the Job Shadowing Survey of Choices Participate in the Job Shadowing Interview

Qualifications Continued You must be able to provide transportation to the workplace on the day of the observation. You must submit the required field trip forms to Mrs. Fisher prior to the observation date.

What Happens at the Interview? You meet with Miss Grana, the overall coordinator, who will complete an intake form that records your preferences regarding occupations you wish to observe You meet with 1 or 2 coordinators from area schools who will interview you for approximately minutes regarding your education, goals, etc

At the Interview The interviewers spend 3-5 minutes giving feedback on your cover letter, application, and interview performance You receive copies of the interviewers written evaluations

After the Interview Miss Grana will contact employers who have agreed to take students interested in your career field Miss Grana will forward your appointment time to me and I will meet with you to verify the appointment

At the Job Site You will observe the host at the job site for the specified time period You will ask your host 9 specific questions regarding his/her career field and place of employment

After the Observation You will submit a written report which includes the answers to the 9 questions and your response to the 2 student questions You will write a thank you letter to the employer expressing your gratitude for the opportunity

If Transportation is an Issue You may choose to participate in the interview and not the observation. This will give you a chance to gain feedback on your interviewing skills. This will enable you to participate in Job Shadowing at a later time if transportation becomes available to you.

If You Wish to Participate See Mrs. Fisher For An Application Packet
