A Drivers Duty Golden Shelton 12/7/2013

Requirements for attaining a drivers license Teens (18/under) If you are 15 1/2 years old, you can get a permit, but you cant drive alone If you are 16 years and three months, and have a drivers education certificate, you don't need a licensed driver in the car with you. You must have the permit for nine months and have it signed by a legal guardian. If you are under 19, you must hold your permit for nine months and show your drivers ed certificate. There must be verified 45 hours of driving. Vision test Two-part knowledge test Adults (19/older) If you are over 19 and you have never held a license in any state, you’ll have to have a learner’s permit for 60 days before you apply for a regular license. Vision test Two-part knowledge test

Medical & Mental Requirements If you have a mental or physical condition that impairs your ability to safely drive, then you have to give the DMV a medical statement from your physician, physician's assitant, or nurse practitioner.

BUT THAT’S IT After those few fairly easy steps you are now a licensed driver As time progresses, the requirements become less meaningful as there should more evaluation due to the rise in technology and many other distractions You are now a licensed driver.

SCARY RIGHT? In New York, every year, the equivalent of about three high school classrooms, or 73 teens ranging from 15-19, are killed in car accidents. Male teens are at greater risk of being fatally injured in a crash than females. Teens are more likely to be seriously injured in a crash if another teen is driving.

Ways to determine a good/bad driver Are they mature enough to safely take on the responsibility of driving? Who will teach them to drive? Do you or another licensed person have the time to supervise his/her driving?
