The Parables of Jesus What is a Parable? –Short fictional stories –Metaphors (usually similes) that compare two unlike things (analogy) Usually, the Kingdom of God is compared to elements from nature or ordinary, common experiences of everyday life –Religious truth (deeper, hidden meaning) –Weird twists or unexpected, surprise ending Keep listeners alert or catch them off-guard –Tease the mind of listeners and challenge them to stop, think, and reflect on the lessons Jesus was trying to teach Similar to a riddle
