Presentation transcript:

Mid-Ohio Foodbank is working toward a hunger-free, healthier community.

Where do we serve? 20 counties in Ohio Network / 550 agencies Food pantries Soup kitchens Senior centers Homeless shelters Afterschool programs Diverse network 80% of the food distributed from Mid-Ohio Foodbank.

2013 Distribution:  50 million pounds of food/grocery products  That’s enough food for 107,000+ meals a day! Where it comes from:  Food Industry: 52%  Government: - USDA: 11% - State: 19% ( Agriculture Surplus / Shelf Stable) - CSFP: 5% (Monthly Boxes for Seniors)  Community Response: 13% (Operation Feed & other food drives)

Non-perishable donations are shrinking. Feeding America reports that 3 – 6 billion pounds of produce goes wasted each year. The Foodbank’s average cost per pound for donated produce is $.17, compared to a cost of $.60 to acquire non- perishable items. The Changing Mix

Fresh is the Future In 2013, the Foodbank distributed more than 50 million pounds of food. Over half of the food distributed is now fresh – including fruits, vegetables, meat and dairy. In 2013, the Foodbank distributed more than 20 million pounds of fresh produce.

35% of pantry food requests are for children and 15% are for senior citizens.

We rely on the support of more than 13,500 volunteers every year to help us grow food, sort food & get it to the people who need it most.

For every $1 donated The Foodbank provides 4 meals!
