“A LITTLE THOUGHT FROM EACH OF US. A BIG DIFFERENECE FOR EVERYONE...” Simona Bali Antonia Ivanova NBU, Sofia, Bulgaria

"We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colours...but they all have to learn to live in the same box.“ Author Unknown

Where do you think you are?

Double-decker seat ticket driver passenger stop traffic lights street sign zebra crossing sightseeing tour red timetable route

Where do you think you are?

Hostel accommodation bunk bed dormitory share backpacker bed & breakfast padlock curfew lounge en-suite mixed sex cheap

Group DOUBLE-DECKER You are on bus N13 going from Finchley Road to Piccadilly Circus. Hold on tight and enjoy your ride

Group HOSTEL You are getting off bus N13 at Finchley Road and you are going to stay at Palmers Lodge hostel. Make sure you have your toothbrushes with you and a padlock for safety reasons. Leave all your valuables with the friendly receptionist – she loves jewellery

Both groups You are faced with some real-life situations. Read the description of the 4 behaviours below and write down your response or interpretation as a group. You should reach an agreement within your group. There is an example. There is a list of useful phrases you can use.

Both groups Imagine how some of the same behaviours would be perceived or interpreted by someone from a culture different from what you have presumed the group to be sharing in the first task. A different cultural trait is described in each case. Read each behaviour again and the description of the culture, and then write in the space provided how you think a person from such a culture would interpret that behaviour.

Role play Each group will be given a situation from the ones already discussed. Each participant will be assigned a different role. You have to act out the situation sticking to the behaviour you are supposed to have as the person you have picked up to be. Unleash your imagination and try to get into the shoes of your character. Don’t spare yourselves !!!

Instead of a conclusion "How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these...“ George Washington Carver, American inventor
