What if God forgave you the way you forgive others? That is exactly what He does! “If you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.” (Matthew 6:14-15)

When God forgives He FORGETS “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” (Hebrews 8:12)

When God forgives He FORGOES punishment, vengeance or retaliation “He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities… As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:10, 12)

When God forgives He FORBEARS by showing patience & longsuffering “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance…and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation” (2 Peter 3:9, 15a)

Let us forgive as God Forgives “Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:32) “…if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.” (Colossians 3:13)

To forgive as God forgives is to set a prisoner free, only to discover that the prisoner was you.
