Horticulture = Growing plants ‘Hortis’ is Greek for ‘Grass’ ‘Culture’ means ‘growing’ Horti + culture = ‘growing grass’ Horticulture is not just growing grass. It is growing all plants. Horticulture is a big business. There are 7 kinds of horticulture business.

Horticulture – Production / Farm The child is picking an apple. An apple orchard A vegetable farm The man is picking vegetables with his son.

Horticulture - Turf / Grass / Lawn A turf mower Tennis courts Lawn BowlsGolf Courses The child is pushing the lawn mower. Is this safe? The man is spraying weeds. He is wearing safety gear. This woman is using a whipper snipper. Is she safe?

Horticulture - Parks and Gardens Geelong Botanic Gardens The man is spraying flowers to stop pests. These flowers are Roses This woman is pruning a small tree. She uses secateurs to do pruning. These men are pruning a hedge. A hedge looks like this.
