What is the water is wasted on? The water is wasted on water fountains, water falls, water displays and canals. Hotels and casinos use about 8% of Las Vegas‘. Most of this recycled. Households use about 75% of public water. There are over 50 golf courses in Las Vegas and they are watered using Las Vegas’ water supply. Casinos and hotels can use up to 7% of the area’s water. Most only 3% of what they have access to.

What is the water wasted on? An example of this is a display at the Bellagio which has more than 1,000 feet of water with water shooting up to 240 feet into the air. The average family uses 17,000 gallons in the summer and 11,000 in winter.

Why does Las Vegas need so much water? With all the tourism in Las Vegas the demand for water keeps growing. The average rainfall is 4 inches. So they are forced to get most of their water from Lake Mead. The water level of Lake Mead is the lowest it has ever been. The water can be pumped from a Lake in North Nevada but the people there don’t want that to happen The water which is used on out-door usage 23% of that is not needed

Why does Las Vegas need so much water? The water is unlikely to be a major problem as long as people keep going to Las Vegas. On average hotel rooms use 300 gallons ( liters') of water a day but that is all recycled.

How much water does Las Vegas use? They use between 100,000 and 350,000 gallons ( to litres of water per year. There are around 1.8 million people and about 100 gallons of water is used per person on gardens. Lake Mead in the largest man-made lake in the US and provides 90% of Las Vegas’ water. The biggest source of water for Las Vegas Lake Mead could be dried up within 13 years.

How much water do 20 families need to live sustainably? On average 20 families would need 40,000 litres to live sustain a bly every year.

What ways can we reduce the amount of water wasted in Las Vegas? We can go with an idea that has already been trialled in Las Vegas. People can only water their gardens and wash their cars on certain days. Watering groups A, C and E can only water on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Groups B, D and F can only water on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Another way is that people are only allowed a certain amount of water for fountains and displays and once they have used their share of the water they can’t use anymore or they have to pay to get more water.
