AA is not allied with any sect, denomination politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety. Al-anon and Alateen Al-Anon and Alateen function separately from Alcoholics Anonymous, although in personal living, each tries to abide by the Twelve Steps of AA They Have also adopted AA’s Twelve Traditions as their Policy guide – with emphasis on anonymity. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions. Everyone attending a meeting is therefore asked to respect the anonymity of all present there. No one is required to actively participate in any way unless they wish.
