Getting Greener How Harbour Air is going Carbon Neutral

The “Climate” has changed…

The Challenge Harbour Air Seaplanes, the world’s largest all-seaplane airline announced today that it has pledged to become completely carbon neutral by the end of As of October 1, 2007, Harbour Air will purchase high quality carbon offsets to mitigate the climate impact of all scheduled service, charter and tour operations. In addition, Harbour Air will institute a policy to track, reduce, and offset its corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by December 31, Harbour Air Seaplanes, the world’s largest all-seaplane airline announced today that it has pledged to become completely carbon neutral by the end of As of October 1, 2007, Harbour Air will purchase high quality carbon offsets to mitigate the climate impact of all scheduled service, charter and tour operations. Objective Why bother Why bother How we contribute to Global Warming How we contribute to Global Warming What does this mean for the passenger What does this mean for the passenger Our Approach Our Approach Conclusion Conclusion

Why bother Harbour Air is a value based company Harbour Air is a value based company One of our main values is - “We strive to do the right thing” One of our main values is - “We strive to do the right thing” The public wants to know what companies are doing about Climate Change The public wants to know what companies are doing about Climate Change In line with our community focused business model In line with our community focused business model Our business depends on the environment… Our business depends on the environment…

How we contribute to Global Warming For Every Pound of Fuel We Burn, We Produce 3 Pounds of CO 2 ! CO2 = Greenhouse Gas

What does this mean to the passenger? One-way trip Vancouver Harbour to Victoria Harbour = 24kg GHG/person One-way trip Vancouver Harbour to Victoria Harbour = 24kg GHG/person Offset Cost = $0.50/person Offset Cost = $0.50/person

Our Approach Phased in approach Phased in approach  Phase 1 - Create a “carbon neutral booking” option for passengers  Phase 2 - Proactively offset all flight operations  Phase 3 - Reduce / off-set corporate footprint

Phase 1 The carbon neutral booking was created adding only $0.50 to a persons one-way flight cost. The carbon neutral booking was created adding only $0.50 to a persons one-way flight cost. This venture was created in partnership with Vancouver based Offsetters Climate Neutral Society. This venture was created in partnership with Vancouver based Offsetters Climate Neutral Society. Phase 2 Flight services: Offsetters.ca will invoice Harbour Air monthly on the basis of fuel consumption figures for the month. Flight services: Offsetters.ca will invoice Harbour Air monthly on the basis of fuel consumption figures for the month. This is fuel burn on all aircraft movements - revenue and non-revenue This is fuel burn on all aircraft movements - revenue and non-revenue

Phase 3 Corporate emissions: Offsetters.ca and Harbour Air will work together to Corporate emissions: Offsetters.ca and Harbour Air will work together to  conduct an audit of greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions from its administration, ground operations, and corporate travel;  develop a strategy to track these emissions on a monthly basis;  develop a strategy to reduce these emissions; and  help Harbour Air to invest in new renewable energy projects to offset all remaining emissions.

Future Concerns The new BC “Carbon Fuel Tax” The new BC “Carbon Fuel Tax” This tax will only be paid by airlines with flights within the Province. This tax will only be paid by airlines with flights within the Province. Companies that are being proactive and currently offsetting their fuel will still be affected by the tax. Companies that are being proactive and currently offsetting their fuel will still be affected by the tax. This may put offsetting programs at risk This may put offsetting programs at risk

Conclusion With an all single engine fleet, Harbour Air is already the “greenest” option for people traveling between Vancouver and Vancouver Island. The cost of offset is minimal compared to the cost to the environment. The cost of offset is minimal compared to the cost to the environment.
