Lost River Jr/Sr High School Extended Application

Oregon Diploma Requirements Education Plan and Profile Career Related Learning Experiences (CRLE) Extended Application (formerly known as the senior project)

Education Plan and Profile (EPP) Students will develop and follow through with an education plan and profile, using the Oregon Career Information System (OCIS)

EPP EPP will explore the learning areas of:  AGRICULTURE,FOOD, AND NATURAL RESOURCE SYSTEMS  ARTS,INFORMATION, AND COMMUNICATIONS  BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT  HEALTH SCIENCES  HUMAN RESOURCES  INDUSTRIAL AND ENGINEERING SYSTEMS

Career Related Learning Experiences (CRLE) Beginning grade 9 students will  Complete a minimum of six career related learning experiences 2 each:  Work-based learning  School-based learning  Service learning

Extended Application Project Choose an option (25 hours minimum) Interview a potential mentor Submit a proposal, task analysis, and interview for approval  June 4 = deadline for submission of summer projects Projects must be approved by a committee of three LRHS staff

Extended Application Project All hours and evaluation to be completed by the end of first semester, senior year

Project Options Work-based projects Service learning School-based projects

Work-based projects Career shadowing Work experience (working with a mentor in a profession or learning a skill or trade) Military training Certification earned

Service Learning Focused community service project (hours may count towards graduation requirement) Examples:  Community sports (coaching or continuous refereeing for an organization)  Faith-based  Community awareness  Event organization

School-based projects  FBLA officer/service project  Teaching experience—summer school or guided classroom experience  College credit earned (pending approval)  Sports based project—above and beyond participation  Health Occupations II—with rotations outside of school hours  Certification earned

Collection of Evidence: Due at end of first semester, senior year Project proposal/Task analysis/Mentor interview Log of project hours Additional interview Proof of project completion  Syllabus, class work, transcripts  Certificates of completion  Physical project  Receipts, pictures, other Passing mentor evaluation Thank you letter to mentor

Portfolio: Due by spring break, senior year Education Plan and Profile Extended Application Project Six CRLE reflection forms (minimum) 2 letters of recommendation Test results for at least one of the following: PSAT, SAT, ACT, COMPASS, OAKS, ASVAB 2 Proof of post-secondary plans  Job application, OSAC, College applications, Military enrollment, FAFSA, Scholarship applications, Online job search engine

Portfolio Contents, continued Resume and professional cover letter Semester transcripts Personal budget sheet Activity worksheet Letter to judges Reflection paper Proof of 40 hours of community service

Oral Boards: End of May 8-12 minutes in front of LRHS staff, students, and community members Covers:  Extended Application Project  Education Plan and Profile  Reflection of entire experience  Future application Must utilize a visual aid

GEAR UP Scholarship ALL class of 2014 students eligible just by being Lost River students Must complete OSAC application Guaranteed $1,000 for first year of college Guaranteed $500 renewable for three years after that If you choose to go for the Advanced Diploma, you will still be eligible for the scholarship in Scholarship can be used at any U.S. college or university that accepts financial aid
