Electronic Presentations Miss Stanley B.T.A.

Presentation Vocabulary Slide- An individual screen in a presentation. Slide master - Used to make global changes to your slides, rather than editing each individual slide. Placeholder- B oxes telling you where to type or where to insert a piece of clip art on the slide.

Presentation Vocabulary Slide Show - A series of slides displayed in sequence. A slide show can be controlled manually or automatically. Outline view -Displays slide text in outline form easy to rearrange text on the slide. Slide Pane Tab -Displays multiple slides at one time (thumbnails) easy to move slides around by dragging.

Presentation Vocabulary Object / Clip - Any element that appears on a slide, such as clip art, text, drawings, charts, sounds, and video clips. Transition -A special effect used to introduce a slide during a slide show. For example, you can fade in from black, or dissolve from one slide to another.

Presentation Vocabulary Animate-To apply movement to text or an object. For example, text might fly onto the screen from the left of drop in from above. Annotation Feature-A method of writing or marking on the slide during a presentation. Narration-A recording of your voice that describes or enhances the message in each slide.

Presentation Vocabulary Sound- recorded audio clips that you can play automatically as a slide changes from one to the next. Timing –amount of time a slide displays on a screen

Presentation Pointers Presentation Planning –Consider audience needs carefully. –Get organized. –Know your subject well. –Prepare visuals appropriate for available equipment and presentation location.

Presentation Pointers Message Development –Think about key points. –Use a presentation outliner or sketch a storyboard. –Keep one idea on a visual. –Add variety as needed.

Graphic Images Art might include photo images, clipart, motion clips, or original artwork scanned and converted to a digitized image.

Graphic Images Clipart can add humor or contribute to text message. Be creative, but use images in good taste. An image isn’t necessary on every chart or slide in the presentation.

Graphic Lines/Boxes Lines can separate sections of a visual, emphasize key words, or connect elements. Boxes can provide a distinctive background for text. Fancy borders can call attention to the contents of a box.

Humor Use humorous clipart on visuals-if appropriate for the presentation topic. Be sure no images could be offensive to the audience.

Speaker Tips Dress professionally. Be enthusiastic. Speak clearly and distinctly. Maintain eye contact. Use natural gestures.

Good Example Uses bullets to organize text Is presented attractively –Not too ‘busy’ –Same text throughout Use short points, not entire paragraphs

What’s Wrong Here? Can you read the text here? Do you have to squint? Is it hard to see some of the text on the mountain?

What’s Wrong Here? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS SLIDE. IT INCLUDES THE GIVEN INFORMATION BUT IT IS TYPED IN ALL CAPS. IS IT APPROPRIATE TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS? IS IT HARD TO READ THIS SLIDE?

What’s Wrong Here? Microsoft PowerPoint Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel Microsoft Access

What’s Wrong Here? Business Technology Essentials Law in Society Personal Finance Accounting I Accounting II Marketing Multimedia Design

What’s Wrong Here? Math Science English Social Studies

Each slide should have a different colored background. Use a different font on each slide, but keep the same font for the entire slide. Insert a transition or animation on each slide.
