The Greeting, vv Now one of the Pharisees was requesting Him to dine with him, and He entered the Pharisee's house and reclined at the table. The Greeting, vv … and standing behind Him at His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and kept wiping them with the hair of her head, and kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume. The Grace, vv And Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." And he replied, "Say it, Teacher." "A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?" Simon answered and said, "I suppose the one whom he forgave more." And He said to him, "You have judged correctly.“Luke 7:40-43 Jesus breaks the silence He responds to Simon’s thoughts Graciously forgave them (χαριζομαι – charizomai) Highlights the grace aspect of forgiveness – undeserved; Rom 8:32; 1 Cor 2:12; Col 2:13 The woman demonstrates her faith through loving Christ Luke 9:23; James 2:18, 21-23

The Gratitude, vv Turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You gave Me no kiss; but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss My feet. The Gift, vv Then He said to her, "Your sins have been forgiven." Those who were reclining at the table with Him began to say to themselves, " Who is this man who even forgives sins?" And He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace.“ Have been forgiven ( ἀ φιημι afiemi – perfect, passive, indicative) Perfect – a past completed action with results in the present, emphasis on the present result Passive – the subject is being acted upon, God forgives, we do not earn it, Rom 4:5; Eph 2:8-9 Indicates she had already believed and been forgiven The other guests Did not recognize who Jesus is Word had spread about Him: Luke 4:36-37; 5:15, 26; 7:16-17

The Gift, v. 50 And He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace.“ Luke 7:50 Your faith has saved you Faith πιστις – pistis: The act of faith Has saved σωζω – sozo: Perfect Active Indicative; past completed action Understanding sin and how to deal with it is a necessary part of salvation “Crossless” gospel refuted Works based salvation refuted Go in peace Romans 5:1 – we have peace with God through Christ, because of Romans 8:1 Go and sin no more, John 8:1-11, i.e. “discipleship” – major theme of Luke Arminianism refuted - It is finished!
